Southampton FC Football Experience

VanU FC has a unique opportunity to travel to one of the most successful youth academies of the last decade. During Spring Break 2018, VanU FC will take a group to visit English Premier League club Southampton FC!

In just over a decade Southampton FC have helped develop and launch the careers of players such as: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool), Calum Chambers (Arsenal), and Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), amongst many more.

This trip is only possible because of a solid connection formed between VanU FC and Southampton FC over the last 3 years. Martin Hunter, SFC Technical Director, came to Vancouver and presented for the club during the 2016 Pacific Soccer Coaching Conference. Current SFC U23’s Head Coach, Radhi Jaïdi (former SFC player and veteran of 2 World Cups and 2 African Cup of Nations) studied for his UEFA A Licence with our own Academy Director, Chris Steel. These bonds have allowed VanU FC to have a trip tailored for them by the English club.

You will get to train with Southampton FC Academy staff, visit the club’s training ground, tour the stadium, and get to watch an English Premier League match. The trip will also include two games against local opposition.

The trip will take place between the 17th and 25th of March, 2018.

The first week of league play for the Boys teams in the new BCCSL has been cancelled

September 5, 2017

We received the unfortunate news on the weekend that the first week of league games for the boys teams in the new BCCSL (BC Coastal Soccer League, which is a merger of our old 4D and the 5 District league the rest of the Lower Mainland was in) has been cancelled.

This league is much larger and it brings together clubs that are used to different processes and deadlines for affiliating their teams for league play. As well, an entirely new software program is being used by the schedulers, and the end result is that they could not generate a schedule in time for league play to begin on September 8, 9 and 10.

To avoid any confusion, here is where all the VanU FC age groups and levels sit with regards to games this weekend:

U12 Girls Div 1A and 1B, plus all U13 to U18 girls teams: games on as scheduled for Sunday, Sept 10.
U11 Boys Gold and all U12 to U18 boys teams: games scheduled for Sept 8 and 9 are cancelled.
U11 Boys Silver and Bronze plus U11 Girls Gold, Silver A and Silver B and U12 Girls Silver A and Silver B: your league always starts a week after the others. Your first games will be the weekend of Sept 16 and 17 and your schedules are done separately from the BCCSL boys divisions so there shouldn’t be a problem there.

Active Start and U9/10 House schedules are not affected by this scheduling problem.

We have been assured that this extra week should be sufficient time to get a schedule generated and teams to be playing on Sept 15, 16 and 17. We will of course advise you of any updates we receive. These will be posted on the club’s website and other social media channels.
