Truth and Reconciliation Day

The inaugural Truth and Reconciliation statutory holiday is on Thursday, September 30. We as a club have decided that all training and programming that day will be cancelled and we have asked our field providers to keep the lights off. This is also being done by the City of Surrey. We also engaged with a VanU parent who is also a member of the Musqueam band about how we should appropriately mark this occasion and they have provided us with some excellent online educational tools that we would like to share and encourage you as families to spend time reading and looking through.

The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the University of Manitoba is hosting a week of free presentations suitable for those in Grade 5 and older. You can get more information about those here: https://nctr.ca/education/trw/

The Musqueam band has put together a fantastic tool on their website introducing people to both their history and their language using an interactive map. Please go here to see it: https://placenamemap.musqueam.bc.ca/
