VanU Newsletter March 2020
The current environment
We know this is a very unusual and tense time for everyone. We hope all our member families are safe and healthy and we’re pleased to see that, in general, Vancouver is embracing the recommendations and instructions from local, provincial and federal levels of government to combat the spread of COVID-19. Our hope is the same as yours. Through these concerted efforts, we are able to get back to normal life and resume the things that we enjoy and maybe have taken for granted.
We are committed to observing the current suspension of all play ordered by the Canadian Soccer Association and endorsed by BC Soccer. That said, we will be ready at the first opportunity, to hit the field with familiar and new programming once the suspension is lifted and field operators open their fields for play. We look forward to this as much as we’re sure you do. On that note here’s a blog post from our Executive Director’s blog that seems timely even though it was written last September.
Spring program cancellation and refund info
The following programs are scheduled to begin sometime in April:
- First Kicks
- VanU Spring Academy
- VanU Spring Goalkeeper Academy
- VanU Community League
- Cascadia Soccer League
If these program have to be cancelled, we are committed to 100% refunds for those who registered. There will be no admin fees charged. However, before we do refunds we want to be 100% certain that the program is indeed going to be cancelled. Therefore, a final decision will be made on Thursday, April 9 and communicated to everyone then. If programs are cancelled you will not have to fill out the Player Withdrawal Form. Staff will simply give everyone a full refund. Please note that our service provider for online registrations has a fraud detection system in place to limit us to 50 refunds a day. We have asked them to raise this limit but so far they have not been willing to. If they don’t it will take some time to process refunds if all spring programs are cancelled. Factor in that it can take 5-7 days to show on your credit card statement so please trust that the refunds are being done and don’t email staff about it unless there is a unique situation you need to communicate.
If you insist on having a refund processed before April 9, please use the Player Withdrawal form located here and note that the applicable admin fee for refunds from the program you are withdrawing from will be applied.
Issues registering
We have had a small number of families say they are unable to register on Stack. We are however still getting registrations for programs and when staff checked it this morning it was working. One member suggested the following worked for him when he initially couldn’t register - clear cookies when you start on Stack and/or using an Incognito browser (for Chrome users). Please let us know at info@vancouverunitedfc.com though if you are unable to register.
Facilities
The Vancouver Park Board, Vancouver School Board, UBC and University Neighbourhoods Association (UNA), who own U Hill Turf, have closed all their facilities until further notice, due to the pandemic outbreak of COVID-19. Please follow the guidelines of health authorities and refrain from using the facilities.
Awards Night
VanU’s annual Awards Night for award winners and graduating U18 players has been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19. We will provide updates when we have more information to share.
Social Media
We encourage you to regularly check our social media channels for more information and for some fun contests we’re lining up.
