Coaching courses and Respect in Sport Activity Leader Training

After a year of not being able to offer BC Soccer’s LTPD (Long Term Player Development) coaching courses we now have a green light to run these courses. The first one to run will Learn to Train for U9-12 coaches. We’ll remind you that completing the age appropriate LTPD courses is a condition for being able to coach. We will send coaches details for coaching courses once they are confirmed.

It is also a condition of our National Youth Club License that all coaches complete the online Activity Leader Training program offered by the Respect in Sport Group. Coaches will be getting a reminder (with link and access code) to complete this course.

Field closure information

As we head into wetter weather, a reminder to check our social media channels for updates on field closures. Using social media allows us to post info very quickly from fields rather than creating targeted emails through our email database. If you aren’t familiar with our social media channels here they are: Instagram @vanufc, Twitter: @vanufc; Facebook @vancouverunitedfc.

Canada v USA Men’s World Cup Qualifier and Canadian Women’s Celebration Tour

While it hasn’t been confirmed officially it is almost certain that the January 30 World Cup qualifier vs USA will be at BC Place. We have already registered our interest with the CSA in securing a block booking of seats for this. When we get confirmation we will put out a form to see how much interest there is in tickets for this game and look to get a large VanU contingent at this game.

It was recently confirmed that the women’s Celebration Tour, to let fans applaud the CanWNT’s gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, will be extended to other cities but there are no details around when or where these games will be. If it becomes apparent that a game will be at BC Place we will also look to secure a block of tickets for our members for this as well.

Note from the technical staff

Our staff coaches understand that as parents it can sometimes be hard to contain your emotions when watching games but they have noticed an uptick in parents trying to coach during games. It’s an important tenet of development that players know there is one consistent voice providing instructions during games and that should be the team’s head coach so there is no confusion or mixed messages. We politely request that parents refrain from coaching from the sidelines.

Introduction to playing the game (for women)

Go Fund Me for the Wilson Family
The Wilson family are in the process of moving to Vancouver from Duncan. Two of the children, Ethan and Lucetta, are already here living with their nana as they were set up for school and playing soccer at VanU when complications delayed the move. Tragically, the Wilson’s house caught fire on October 31 and several inside were injured; some badly. Their little brother has fourth degree burns and is being treated at Children's Hospital here.

A family friend has started a GoFundMe to help with what will be many unexpected expenses that the family now faces. If you would like to contribute, please go to the fundraising campaign here: https://gofund.me/66a3601d
