Vancouver United FC Announces New Leadership
As the 2018-19 soccer season starts, VanU’s board is excited to share news with the membership. Over the last year, the Board of Directors has been working to put in place the organization and processes to support the club’s strategic plan implementation and improve our operational capabilities.
As part of this plan, we established a new Executive Director position for the club, who is responsible for the overall management of the club’s operations. This new position has been augmented with a Director of Operations position responsible for all soccer operations and community relations. The club ran an international recruitment process to fill these positions and are excited to announce these new appointments.
Gregor Young, has been appointed to the position of Executive Director. Gregor has a long history in both soccer and with Vancouver United. He is a former national team player, B National Certified Coach, BC Soccer Learning Facilitator and the former Technical Director for VanU and predecessor clubs Point Grey Soccer Association and Kerrisdale Soccer Society. Gregor is actively involved throughout the Lower Mainland participating at the board level with many of the regional soccer associations.
Jimmy Patsilivas, has been appointed to the position of Director of Operations. Jimmy comes to the club from Montreal, Quebec, where he was the former President / General Director of the Chomedey Soccer Club, and was the Director Operations / General Manager for La Cage – Brasserie Sportive, a multi-regional restaurant chain. During his tenure at La Cage, Jimmy managed operational and administrative functions, and successfully drove a major rebranding that helped to generate a 20% increase in sales. Jimmy also brings soccer credentials including B Provincial / B National Coaching licenses and current experience as the assistant coach with the Université de Montréal and the Laval Regional Selects.
Gus Karvelis, has been appointed to the position of Technical Director, replacing Gregor. Gus has been working with VanU since 2015 as a senior staff coach. His coaching experience includes Assistant Coach at Kwantlen Polytechnical University, Head Coach of the U18 VFC and U13 and U15 girls Metro Selects Teams, as well as Assistant Coach with the Fusion BCSPL U16 girls (Provincial Champions) and U18 boys teams. Gus is also a B Provincial Certified Coach and BC Soccer Learning Facilitator.
Please join us in congratulating our new leadership team and supporting us as we continue to improve our operations and support our membership.
Vancouver United FC was founded in 2011 as a result of joining three long-standing west side Vancouver clubs - Dunbar Soccer Association, Kerrisdale Soccer Society, and Point Grey Soccer Association. VanU is currently one of the largest soccer clubs in the Lower Mainland with boys and girls playing at the U4 to U18 levels.
